NEW PASSENGER . SERVICE

FROM PORTLAND, OREGON

The States Steamship Company anounce an improved and faster combination passenger and freight service.

Effective with the first sailing from Portland Oregon on December 28, the States Steamship will commence operation of 14-knot combination passenger nut refriger- ated freight steamers to Hong Kong ria Yokohama and Kobe. These vessels will sail every 21 days from Portland calling at Yokohama, Kobe, Hong Kong and Manila, nad will return to San Francisco and Portland direct from Hong Kong, Further details and particulars of the new service will be announced shortly.

This new service presumably will be supplemented by the continua. tion of the regular freighter ser- vice from Portland Oregon is Hong Kong, which has been maintained uninterruptedly for the past ten

years.

With the acquisition of these combination passenger and refrigerated steamers, Portland Oregon will have freight and service on a par with passenger other Pacific Coast parts, and Hong Kong will have the fastest direct service between this port and San Francisco,

It is estimated that the firat ves. sel of the now fleet will arrive in Hong Kong during the third week in January and will sail a her first homeward voyage to San Fran.
