office of the States Steamship Com pany estimate that the passage from Fartland to Hong Kong ria Yoko lina and Kobe will take 21 days and from Hong Kong to San Fran. cisco, 18 days.
This new service presumably will be supplemented by the continua. tion of the regular freighter ser- vice from Portland Oregon is Hong Kong, which has been maintained uninterruptedly for the past ten
years.
With the acquisition of these combination passenger and refrigerated steamers, Portland Oregon will have freight and service on a par with passenger other Pacific Coast parts, and Hong Kong will have the fastest direct service between this port and San Francisco,
It is estimated that the firat ves. sel of the now fleet will arrive in Hong Kong during the third week in January and will sail a her first homeward voyage to San Fran.
