Encloses details of microscopes reconi- mended by Dr. MacCallan; suggests that he and Dr. Shipley should see them, and asks if he is authorized to order any.

States that Dr. A. G. Bagshawe has been requested to order microscopes as indi- cated for the ankylostomiasis cam. paign; and requests that arrange- ments may be made for forwarding the instruments to the Colonies concerned as shown.

Requests, with reference to No. 43, that he with Dr. Shipley will inspect the instruments and, if they meet with their approval, order eight of the high-power and twelve of the cheaper. States that the microscopes to be used in the ankylostomiasis campaign will be selected by Drs. Bagshawe and Ship- ley and shipped in due course by the Crown Agents.

Encloses a copy of No. 37 with a copy of the Antigua budget forwarded therein; requests that on receipt of authority from the Commission for the proposed expenditure he will cause votes to be taken in the Legisla ture for the total cost during the year of the work, the amount recovered from the Commission being shown as a special item of revenue; understands that quarterly reports will be required and that model forms will be supplied; states that duplicates of these reports should be forwarded to the Secretary of State; and requests that he will draw attention in these periodical re porta to the progress made in the im- provement of sanitary conditions, Encloses a copy of No. 37 together with a copy of the Grenada, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent budget forwarded there. in; requests that, on receipt of the authority from the Commission for the proposed expenditure, he will cause votes to be taken in the Legislature for the total cost during the year of the work, the amount recovered from the Commission being shown special item of revenue; states that arrangements as indicated should be made in anticipation of the arrival of the Medical Officers; understands that quarterly reports will be required, and that model forms will be supplied; states that duplicates of these reports should be forwarded to the Secretary of State; and requests that attention may be drawn in these periodical re- ports to the progress made in the improvement of sanitary conditions. ture to be incurred during the first year in the campaign in Trinidad, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, and Antigua; requests that, should these estimates meet with the approval of the Commission, such approval may be communicated to the Governments concerned; expresses appreciation of the provision which the Commission propose to make; and states that the Governors have been instructed to bear in mind the necessity of co operation and to draw particular at- tention in their periodical reports to the progress made in the improvement of sanitary conditions. Explains the formation and objects of the International Health Commission; considers it unlikely that Mr. Rose could spare time to visit the Seychel- les, but suggests that the Commission might authorize a scheme for the Seychelles; requests that a full state ment may be prepared of the preva lence of this disease in the Colony, with a report on the measures taken for its eradication, and any general

observations.
