Government House, Nassau, February 15, 1900. IN reference to my telegram of this day's date informing you that the House of Assembly had voted a sum of £1,000 on behalf of the Lord Mayor's Fund for the Widows and Orphans caused by the War in South Africa, I have the honour to transmit a copy of the Resolution passed in the House and subsequently concurred in by the Legislative Council in reference to this matter.

I may add that this was the first act of the Assembly when convened on the 7th inst., and was in no way prompted by the Executive.

COFY of a RESOLUTION Passed by the House of Assembly at its Meeting on the 7th February, 1900.

WHEREAS there now exists in South Africa a war between the British Empire and the South African Republica :

And whereas with a view to alleviating the suffering and want thereby caused to the wives and children of the British soldiers and sailors at the front subscriptions have been given from all parts of the Empire:

And whereas this Colony desires to express its, unswerving loyalty to the Person and Throne of Her Majesty The Queen, its admiration for the gallant men at the front, and its sympathy with the sufferers at home:

Resolved that this House will indemnify the Receiver General and Treasurer in paying out of the Public Treasury on the Warrant of His Excellency the Governor the sum of £1.000 as a subscription from this Colony towards the Lord Mayor's Fund in aid of the families of British soldiers and sailors fighting in South Africa, together with the cost of remitting the same.
