are now engaged in South Africa. In the evening a solemn memorial service was held in St. George's Church, Basseterre, for those who had fallen in the war.
2. The denominations represented here are the Church of England, the Church of Rome, the Wesleyan Methodist Church, and the Moravian Church.

3. All the services were fully attended with every manifestation of loyalty and devotion to the national cause, and sympathy with those whose homes have been darkened by death. The places of business were closed during the hours of services, and so were the Government offices as far as statutory requirements permitted.

2. This evidence of the loyal and patriotic feeling of the inhabitants of St. Kitts has afforded me much gratification.

2. I have had much pleasure in handing over the amount to the Lord Mayor of London, and I desire to express through you to the Committee and the subscribers generally my high appreciation of this practical and generous demonstration of the loyalty of the Colony to the Queen and Empire.

I HAVE the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your despatch, St. Lucia, of the 27th ultimo, transmitting a despatch from the Administrator of St. Lucia, in which he encloses a Colonial Bank draft for £300 as a first instalment from St. Lucia in aid of the sufferers from the war in South Africa, and to request that you will convey to Mr. King-Harman and to the people of St. Lucia my warm appreciation of this generous contribution.
Regarding the disposal of the amount in question, I await your reply to my despatch of the 6th instant.§
