26th June, 1915. I HAVE the honour to acknowledge the receipt of Your Excellency's despatch of 16th June, transmitting a copy of a despatch* from the Right Honourable the Secretary of State for the Colonies respecting gifts contributed by the various parts of the Empire.
2. Swaziland has not contributed any direct gifts to the Colonial or War Offices, but the public has contributed in other ways. A fund of £1,060† was raised by subscription, which has been, and is being, devoted to the assistance of men going to German South-West Africa and the other theatres of war. A sum of £820 has been spent to date from this fund. In addition to this fund another, called the Swaziland War Relief Fund, has been constituted, and is supported by monthly contributions from European residents in the territory and by a proportion of native members of the Swaziland Police. At the end of May, 1915, the sum of collections in this fund amounted to £797 14s. 8d. Contributions to the fund are applied variously, as desired by the individual donors, to the following objects:-
(a) Relief, if required, to members of the Swaziland troop of the Imperial
Light Horse and other residents of Swaziland at the front.
(b) The Prince of Wales's Fund.
(c) The Governor-General's Fund.
