States that Lord Crewe has approved a recommendation of the Committee that the sum of £400 should be paid as a contribution from the Research Fund towards the establishment of the Australian School of Tropical Medicine at Townsville; and conveys his Lordship's wishes for the success and prosperity of the school.
Acknowledges the receipt of No. 59, and states that the question of the disposal of the unexpended balance of the grant for 1907-8 will be brought before the Committee at its meeting in May, 1909; and that in the mean- time instructions to pay the amount of the grant for 1908–1909 have been given to the Crown Agents.

November 27 Explains, in reply to No. 12, that the meaning of the suggestions contained in Lord Elgin's Circular despatch of 23rd December, 1907, has been mis- understood, and that in framing the suggestions especial care WAB taken to preclude the idea that the individuality of the investigator was to be affected or that his predilections for the pursuit of any special line of research were to be restricted.

States that No. 42 has been laid before the Advisory Committee and that, though they are not prepared to endorse all the criticisms contained therein, they readily admit tha: much remains to be done and gladly acknowledge th public spirit in which those criticisms have been made.
