569 goincidence that the very day after, he was ordered to

clear out his shop. Do you think it is possible ↑ It is possible of course, that it might mawe been faked. Our routine is this, that the cooliss having found rata, have to attach - tioket saying where they found that rat, bring it up to the Disinfecting Station, and from there it goes down to the Mortuary, with the ticket still on it, and then the report is sent to me, saying that such and such rats were infected with plague. Then I should send a memorandum to the Inspector, saying

where the rat was found.

Supposing the Inspector wanted to alter the number of 13 322

the house, No 3 instead of No 6 say, or even alter the

name of the road or terrace ?

The list is made out before the rats are examined,

and the list comes back to me, shewing where the plagu

rat was found, with a blue pencil mark.

So that if the paper had been altered, you could easily /3323

prove that

I can tell you that, if you give me the address of a house I can look up my records, and see if a plague infected rat was found there, this year or last year. Those men have been engaged in the ratcatching for so 13 324 long, that they would gain some knowledge as to what

rats were infected.

If you see a rat with a swelled up body, and its hair

standing out, would that be a plague infected rat ?

A.

Not necessarily.

.. 4.

I have seen live ones like that.

It might be evidenas f sickness, not necessarily

plague.

Do you remember any case, in which a rat has been

reported as having been found in the same house two or

three times, in the course of a week or a month ?
