Say a ratcatcher has a certain spite against a certain
person, and every day he reports a rat caught else-
where, as having been caught in that person's house,
surely by mere chance he is able sooner or later to
gratify his spite ↑
I dont admit that it would be easy for a ratcatcher to
tell which rate are likely to be infected.
But are not some rate so bad, that there is a bubo 13,328

probably brought from rios junks. It is quite possible
that a large number of rats were brought by junk, not
specially imported.

They were not imported, but the majority were found im
the street, or in the lanes. In fact, as soon as we
gave up that system of bonus for each rat, the number
of rats each day dropped considerably, but the
proportion of rats found in houses inoreagad, not only
relatively, but actually.
