IW. Woodcock Exe

I suggest that it is possible for a Chinaman to bring his 1634

book to a Government office and a Chinese clerk might write

up the Bill from that book direct ?

I don't quite follow you.

It is possible.

Q: You said you did not think it possible because you were

moving about constantly and you would see if it was done?

A: Yes, but we are not always moving back and forwards and it

is possible it might be done.

That contradicts what you said. It is possible ?

A: Yes, it is possible but I don't think it is probable. That

is what I should have said.

16498- Well, in the event of a Chinese clerk translating the Bills 1642

from Chinese to English would the Chinese originals be

attached to the translation ?

th

I always see the Bills in English, and Chinese. The bill

is

not attached. If I want to see the Bill at any time I would

of course get it.

Will you accept a Chinese translation even if you know it is 1643

made out by one of your clerks ?

I frequently have done so. To the Bills there is attached

the order which has been signed by the Inspector saying that

30 many articles have been received. The account is checked

by a clerk named Mr Lo Nan Kai.

164898-

He is your senior clerk ?

1644

A: Yes, senior Chinese clerk, and Mr Bowen Rowlands to see they coincide with the contract price. Having got from the Inspec -tor practically a certificate saying that so many articles have been received and the price of each article has been checked by Mr Lo Man Kai and Hr Bowen Rowlands 1 accept the Bill as being correct.
