METALS.

Imports totalled $38.2 millions as compared with $38.1 millions, and exports $81.1 millions as com- pared with $33.6 millious.

Imports of Iron and Steel Bars declined heavily, amounting to 549,000 pieuls ($2.8 millions) as com pared with 1.1 million piculs ($5.0 millions). Imports from Belgium tell from 1.0 million to 449,000 picules, and United Kingdom from 40,000 to 27,000 pieuls, whilst Germany increased her share of the trade from 14,000 to 56,000 piculs. Exports amounted to 554,000 picule (82.8 millions) as compared with 777,000 piculs ($3.9 millions), South China taking the bulk.

Imports of Wire Nails declined from 59,000 piculs ($693,000) tu 26,000 piculs ($248,000), the quantity from Japan increasing from 2,900 piculs ($32,000) to 12,600 piculs ($113,000). Exports totalled 23,500 piculs ($282,000) as compared with 44,700 piculs ($500,000).

Imports of Galvanized Wire increased in quantity from 57,000 to 61.000 piculs, but values fell from $668,000 to $560,000. Imports from Japan increased from 1,800 to 23,700 piculs, whilst the imports from Belgium fell from 40,700 to 26,100 piculs.

Imports of Iron Wire increased from 45,000 pieuls ($418,000) to 47,000 piculs ($306,000), arrivals from U.S.A. totalling 18,000 piculs as compared with 9,000 piculs.

Imports of Tinplates remained approximately the same at 220,000 piculs ($3.3 millions), the share of the United Kingdom declining from 111,000 to 91,000 piculs, and U.S.A. advancing from $5,000 to 94,000 piculs.

Imports of Tin Slabs from British Malaya amounted to 4,500 piculs ($779,000) as compared with 3,800 piculs ($519,000).

China Tin Slabs imports totalled 115,000 piculs ($16.6 millions) as compared with 128,000 piculs ($17.4 millions), and exports 120,000 piculs ($19.9 millions) as compared with 120,000 piculs ($19.3 millions). Of the exports France took 24,000 piculs, Japan 19,000 piculs, and U.S.A. 41,000 piculs.

MINERALS AND ORES.

Imports totalled $1.1 millions as compared with $1.9 millions, and exports $2.9 millions as compared with $1.5 millions.

Imports of Wolframite declined from 40,000 piculs ($1.6 millions) to 12,000 piculs ($1.0 million). Exports were approximately the same at 33,000 piculs, but values rose from $1.2 to $2.8 millions.

NUTS AND SEEDS.

Imports totalled $6.1 millions as compared with $5.8 millions, and exports $4.2 millions as compared with $3.8 millions.

Imports of Nuta totalled 471,607 pieuls ($3,190,290) as compared with 846,760 piculs ($2,695,945), and exports 290,214 piculs ($1,776,884) as compared with 183,369 piculs ($1,270,618).

Imports of Seeds totalled 177,935 piculs ($2,910,997) as compared with 145,204 piculs ($3,118,269), and exports 147,102 piculs ($2,450,619) as compared with 118,552 piculs ($2,578,052).

Pepper imports fell from 23,000 piculs ($694,000) to 18,000 piculs ($579,000).

OILS AND FATS.

Imports totalled $33.9 millions as compared with $35.6 millions, and exports $25.8 millions as com- pared with $30.4 millions.

Imports of Lard fell from 17,000 piculs ($425,000) to 12,000 piculs ($233,000), and exports from 89,000 piculs ($994,000) to 33,000 piculs ($622,000). Exports to the Philippines declined from 5,000 to 357 picule.

Imports of Petrol increased from 12.0 million gallons to 13.6 million gallons, but values declined from $6.5 to $5.0 millions. Exports fell slightly from 8.5 million gallons ($5.1 millions) to 8.3 million gallons ($4.3 millions). There were increased imports from the Netherlands East Indies at the expense of U.S.A.

Imports of Fuel Oil decreased from 192,000 tons ($0.1 millions) to 178,000 tons (38.4 millions), whilst exports increased from 59,000 tons ($3.1 millions) to 100,000 tons ($5.8 millions), South China taking 82,000 tons as compared with 48,000 tons, and Middle China 13,000 tons as compared with 5,000 tons.

Kerosene imports increased from 15.0 million gallons ($6.1 millions) to 20.3 million gallons ($6.9 millions), but exports fell heavily from 15.0 million gallons ($7.1 millions) to 3.5 million gallons ($1.5 millions), the whole of China taking only 1.0 million gallons as compared with 10.8 million gallons.

Imports of Lubricating Oil increased slightly from 1.8 million gallons ($1.4 millions) to 2.0 million gallons ($1.5 millions), whilst exports remained practically the same at 1.5 million gallons ($1.0 million).
