PAINTS.

Imports totalled $1.4 millions as compared with $2.0 millions, and exports $1.3 millions as compared with $1.7 millions.

Unenumerated Paint imports fell from $1.2 millions to $883,000, and exports from $346,000 to $291,000, Japan's share of the Imports increasing from $70,000 to $96,000.

PAPER AND PAPERWARE.

Imports totalled $9.7 millions as compared with $9.4 millions, and exports $7.0 millions as compared with $8.0 millions.

Imports of Chinese Papor increased from 92,000 piculs ($1.7 millions) to 99,000 piculs ($1.4 millions) and Old Newspapers from 315,000 piculs ($1.4 millions) to 426,000 piculs ($1.6 millions).

Imports of Printing Paper remained approximately the same at $3.1 millions, but exports declined from $1.5 millions to $838,000. Imports from Canada increased from $282,000 to $524,000 and Japan from $525,000 to $906,000.

PIECE GOODS AND TEXTILES.

Imports totalled $66.6 millions as compared with $75.1 millious, and exports $48.7 millions as com- pared with $55.5 millions.

It will be seen from the table below that the United Kingdom share of the import trade steadily de- clined from 88.6% in 1932, to 23.9% in 1933 and 15.5% in 1934, whilst Japan increased her share from 7.0% to 9.8% and 17.8% respectively, and North China from 36.3% to 47.3% and 50.6% respectively. China and Japan, therefore, accounted for 67.9% of the total import trade.
