(o) the manufacture of metal, including founding, smelting

and rolling;

(P) the manufacture of metal products. machinery, apparatus

and appliances, including machinery repair;

(q) the manufacture of electrical machinery, apparatus,

appliances and supplies;

(r) the manufacture of transport equipment, including ship

repair, ship breaking and aircraft repair;

(s) the manufacture of scientific instruments, watches, jewellery, photographic and optical goods, musical iostruments, wigs and bair products, sporting and athletic goods;

(0) the manufacture, assembling or processing of any other

article or thing whatsoever;

"outworker" means any person employed by a manufacturing establishment who works in his own home or elsewhere outside the premises of the manufacturing establishment on materials supplied by the manufacturing establishment; "relevant period" means

(a) the period of twelve months from the 1st January 1970

to the 31st December 1970; or

(b) a period of twelve consecutive months which includes

the month of July 1970; or

(c) in the case of any manufacturing establishment which commenced operation after the 31st July 1970, the period from the date of commencement to the 31st July 1971;

"sales" include

(a) all sales made at a manufacturing establishment; (b) all sales made by a manufacturing establishment or for the manufacturing establishment by another firm or by oupworkers on materials supplied by the manufacturing establishment;

(c) the value of all capital goods produced by a manufactur-

ing establishment for its own use;

(d) the value of all transfers of goods made at a manu- facturing establishment to another manufacturing estab- lishment under the same ownership:

(e) all resales by a manufacturing establishment of goods

which-

(i) undergo no intervening manufacturing process; or

(i) are sold in the same condition as they are received.

A census of manufacturing establishments in the Colony shall be taken during the period from the 26th July 1971 to the 29th August 1971, inclusive.

4. The purpose of the census is to obtain the following particulars of manufacturing establishments in the Colony-

(a) the type of ownership of each manufacturing establish-

ment on the 4th August 1971:

(b) in respect of the employees of each manufacturing

establishrueni-

(4) the number of employees directly engaged in fabricating, processing or assembling goods at work on the 4th August 1971 and the number of employees engaged in activities directly ancillary to these manu- facturing processes on the 4th August 1971, other than outworkers;

(ii) the number of employees other than employees to whom sub-sub-paragraph (1) applies at work on the 4th August 1971;

(iii) the total number of employees at work on the 4th August 1971; and

(iv) the normal number of shifts, excluding overtime, worked by the employees of the manufacturing establish- ment during the 24 hour period of the 4th August 1971; (c) in respect of the floor area of each manufacturing estab-

lishment on the 4th August 1971–

(i) the size of the floor area used for the fabricating. processing or assembling of goods;

(ii) the size of the floor area used for other purposes; (iii) the size of the total door area of the manufactur- ing establishment;

(d) which manufacturing establishments on the 4th August 1971 were equipped with power machinery for the purpose of production driven by an electric motor;

(e) which manufacturing establishments on the 4th August 1971 lused coal gas, liquefied petroleum gas, kerosene, gasoline thinner or lacquer for the purpose of produc- tion:
