Drivers of private cars entitled to drive other classes of motor vehicles.

(c) the vehicle is a public car or a public light

bus-

(i) not more than one person in addition to the driver is carried thereon; and

(ii) it is not for the time being used for the carriage of passengers for hire or reward;

(d) the vehicle is a private light bus, not more than one person in addition to the driver is carried thereon.

4A. A person who is the holder of a driving licence which entitles him to drive goods vehicles of a weight unladen not exceeding two tons and private cars shall by virtus thereof also be entitled to drive any taxi, public car, private light bus or public light bus if there is displayed on the front of the vehicle a plate showing, in block letters and characters not less than four inches high, on a red background the words "OUT OF SERVICE" and the Chinese characters "#8€”, and it

+

(a) the vehicle is a taxi-

(i) the taximeter is covered in such man- ner that it is not visible from outside the taxi; and

(i) not more than one person in addition

to the driver is carried thereon; and

(iii) it is not for the time being used for the carriage of passengers for hire or reward; (6) the vehicle is a public car or public light

bus-

(1) not more than one person in addition

to the driver is carried thereon; and

(ii) it is not for the time being used for the carriage of passengers for hire or reward; (c) the vehicle is a private light bus, not more than one person in addition to the driver

is carried thereon.".

Regulation 12 of the principal regulations is amended-

(a) in paragraph (1) by deleting "or a dual purpose vehicle registered for use as a private car and as a goods vehicle" and substituting the following-

a public light bus or a private light bus.";

(b) in paragraph (2) by deleting "or a dual purpose vehicle registered for use as a private car and as a goods vehicle" and substituting the following-

a public light bus or a private light bus.".

5. Part III of the principal regulations is amended by adding after regulation 23 the following new regulations-

"Certain

persons

qualified For licence to drive public light buses and private light buses.

Holders of certain private licences deemed to be the holder of licence

to drive public light bus and privale light bus.

23A. Notwithstanding anything contained in these regulations, any person who-

(a) has passed a test of competency by an authorized examiner which satisfies the Commissioner that he is competent to drive a public light bus and a private light bus; and

(b) is not disqualified by order of any court from holding or obtaining a driving licence. shall be qualified to receive a licence to drive a public light bus and a private light bus.

23B. (1) Any person who at the date of com- mencement of the Road Traffic (Driving Licences) (Amendment) Regulations 1969-

(a) is the holder of a driving licence in respect of any class of motor vehicle specified by the Commissioner by notice in the Gazette: or (b) is the holder of a driving licence which is expressed to authorize him to drive dual purpose vehicles purporting to be registered for use as private cars and as goods vehicles. shall, until the expiration of a driving licence referred to in paragraph (a) or (b), be deemed to be the holder of a licence to drive public light buses and private light buses.

(2) In this regulation—~

"dual purpose vehicle" means a motor vehicle which is registered as a dual purpose vehicle prior to the commencement of the Road Traffic (Driving Licences) (Amendment) Regulations 1969.".
