Explanatory Note.

(This Note is not part of the regulations, but it intended to indicate their general purport).

These regulations are intended to enable more effective control to be exercised over the disposal of irradiating apparatus, so that the risk of such appatatos causing harm will be reduced.

Minor amendments relating to the licensing of such apparatul are included.

Regulation 7 deletes from the principal regulations the word "sum- mary" which is now superfluous because of the provisions of s. 89(1) of the Interpretation and General Clauses Ordinance (Cap. 1).

RADIATION ORDINANCE. (Chapter 303),

RADIATION (CONTROL OF RADIOACTIVE SUBSTANCES) (AMENDMENT) REGULATIONS 1970.

In exercise of the powers conferred by section 14 of the Radiation Ordinance, the Radiation Board has. subject to the approval of the Legislative Council, made the following regula- tians-

1. These regulations may be cited as the Radiation (Control Clation. of Radioactive Substances) (Amendment) Regulations 1970.

2. The principal regulations are amended by adding after regulation 3 the following new regulations—

3A. (1) A fee of thirty dollars in respect of any period of twelve months or any part thereof shall be payable to the Authority in respect of the grant or renewal of a licence required by section 7 of the Ordinance for any radioactive substance.

(2) A licence shall be issued in the name of the applicant and shall contain, so far as may be appli- cable, the particulars specified in regulation 3 and any conditions imposed.

(3) A licence granted or renewed shall be valid for twelve months with effect from the date of grant or renewal thereof or for such lesser period as may be specified in the licence.

(4) No licence shall be transferable.

38. (1) A person to whom a licence has been issued of renewed under the Ordinance shall cause the licence to be exhibited in a conspicuous place in the premises where the radioactive substance concerned is stored or otherwise dealt with.

(2) Any person who fails to comply with para- graph (1) shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable on conviction to a fine of two thousand dol lars.".

Regulation 17 of the principal regulations is amended

in sub-paragraph (6) of paragraph (1) by inserting after "sub- stance" the following-

"without the written permission of the Authority".
