Explanatory Note.

(This Note is not part of the by-laws, but in intended to indicate their general purport).

The responsibility for the control of dairies throughout the Colony has recently been transferred to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. It is intended that dairies will be governed by regulations made under the Public Health (Animals and Birda) Ordinance, (Cap. 139), and reference to dairies and provisions relating thereto are accordingly removed from the principal by-laws.

2. It is considered desirable that the pasteurizing of milk and cream be subject to the same controls sa the sale etc. of milk and cresm in milk abops, and the principal by-laws are amended accordingly,

By-law 2 introduces a new by-law 4B which is intended to make it clear that milk and beverages similar to milk may be kept at any promises for sale and consumption on the premises in containers which are not approved containers, eg, uncovered milk juga.

PUBLIC HEALTH (FOOD) ORDINANCE. (Chapter 140).

SLAUGHTER-HOUSES (AMENDMENT) BY-LAWS, 1956.

In exercise of the powers conferred by sections of the Public Health (Food) Ordinance, the Urban Council has made the following by-laws-

1.

These by-laws may be cited as the Slaughter-houses Citation. (Amendment) By-laws, 1956.

2. The Slaughter-houses By-laws (hereinafter referred to as Addition the principal by-laws) are amended by the addition after by-law 12

If any food officer is of opinion that any carcase p. 181). in a slaughter-house is unfit for human food, he may, if authorized so to do in writing by the Director of Urban Services either generally or specially, cause it to be destroyed and disposed of in such manner as he may direct and no com- pensation shall be payable to any person in respect of such destruction.".

3. (0) The principal by-laws are amended by the deletion Amand- of the words "Sanitary Department" wherever occurring and the ment of substitution therefor in each case of the following-

"Urban Services Department".

(2) The amendments specified in the second column of the Schedule shall be made in the provisions of the principal by-laws specified in the first column of the Schedule.
