218. Distribution, Mainland: The following works were carried out:- 450 feet of 12″ spun iron main were laid in Cheung Sha Wan Road, from Yen Chow Street to Kiu Kiang Street, and 325 feet of 12″ spun iron main were laid in Kiu Kiang Street, from Cheung Sha Wan Road to Fuk Wah Street.

219. Shing Mun Valley Scheme, Catchwaters - First Section:- A contract for the first section of this work, which comprises approximately 6,000 feet at the outfall end of the catchwater, was let in October to Messrs. Malcolm & Company for the sum of $194,814.06. Good progress was made by the end of the year, a total of 52,000 cubic yards of soft and 8,000 cubic yards of rock excavation were removed.
Second Section:- Surveys for this section, approximately 10,000 feet in length were completed. Contract documents were well in hand by the end of the year. The subsequent works in 1938 will be dealt under Loan Works - Appendix VI (c), Head 2 - Waterworks (i).

220. Improvement, Road to Sha Tin Pass:- The work of improving bends and strengthening culverts was put in hand during the year. This was carried out under the Roads Maintenance Contract and was satisfactorily completed.
Tenders were called for at the end of the year for concrete surfacing the road between Chuk Yuen and Sha Tin Pass. The cost was covered by payment into a separate account.
A certain amount of resumption in respect of agricultural land was required.
221. Construction of Pill Boxes and Tunnels
Tunnels at Sites No. 53, 54 and 65:- The work was completed on 20th September.
222. Construction of Demolition Chambers, New Territories:- The work was completed on 11th September.
223. Road to Smuggler's Pass:- This work which was referred to in paragraph 209 of last year's Report was completed on 28th February.
224. Approach Road to Tsun Wan Cemetery:- A contract was let to Messrs. Chuen Wo & Co. on 1st May, but owing to various amendments to the alignment work was not commenced until September. Work was nearing completion by the end of the year.
