130. Eastern Pumping Scheme:-The Jardine's Lockout Section of this Scheme (see paragraph 138 of 1934 Report) was completed in February and brought into use. The work done this year consisted of laying (a) 2,847 feet of 4" main to connect to Jardine's Lookout Service Reservoir to the Repulse Bay Pipe line and (b) 2,120 feet of 3″ distribution mains from Tai Hang Tank to serve properties above Tai Hang Village. Results up to the end of the year have been very satisfactory.
The Middle Gap and Mount Cameron Sections of this Scheme were also proceeded with and were practically completed by the end of the year.
The Middle Gap Section is similar to the Jardine's Lookout Section and utilises the unfiltered water energy between Bowen Road Conduit and the Upper Eastern Filter Beds to deliver filtered water either to a new covered Service Reservoir near Middle Gap, or to the Jardine's Lookout Service Reservoir.
The Mount Cameron Section consists of pumping filtered water from the new Middle Gap Service Reservoir to a new high level covered Service Reservoir on Mount Cameron.
The Middle Gap Service Reservoir has a capacity of about 200,000 gallons and a top water level of 778 A.O.D. i.e. the same level as Jardine's Lookout Service Reservoir. The side walls are of mass concrete and the roof is of reinforced concrete beam and slab design, carried on reinforced concrete columns. The reservoir is divided into two portions by a mass concrete division wall.
The Mount Cameron Service Reservoir is of similar design, the top water level being 1323.5 A.O.D. and the capacity 100,000 gallons.
The two reservoirs were completed satisfactorily on November 30th under Contract No. 26 of 1935.
The two pump houses, one at the Upper Eastern Filter Beds and the other at Middle Gap, are of reinforced concrete and brick-work. The erection of the pump houses was carried out under Contract No. 49 of 1935, which was not quite completed at the end of the year.
The pumping plant at the Upper Eastern Filter Beds consists of two Tangye treble ram pumps together with two Turgo Impulse water turbines supplied by Messrs. Gilkes & Gordon Ltd. These were obtained by Indent through the Crown Agents and are similar to the sets supplied for the pump house at the lower Eastern Filter Beds in 1934. Each set is capable of delivering 3,000 gallons per hour into either Middle Gap or Jardine's
