The total number of lamps in use at the end of the year in the City, Outside City and Peak Districts was as follows:-

In addition to these, the Taikoo Dockyard and Engineering Co. of Hong Kong provide ten lamps, each having a cluster of three-100 C.P. incandescent lamps for lighting the road adjacent to their property.

An arrangement, similar to that made with the Hong Kong & China Gas Co. for the extinguishing at midnight of a number of street lamps, was made with the Hong Kong Electric Co. The following were the roads affected. In all 322 lamps came under the arrangement:- Bowen Road, Brewin Path, Clovelly Path, Harlech Road, Homestead Path, Lugard Road, Magazine Gap Road, Middle Gap Road, Mount Cameron Road, Mount Davis Road, Pokfulum Road, Sassoon Road, Stubbs Road, Tregunter Path and Wanchai Gap.

54. Typhoon and Rainstorm Damages:- A few landslides occurred in the following localities:- Belchers Street, King's Road, Lugard Road, Magazine Gap Road, Middle Gap Road, South Bay Road, Stubbs Road and Tai Hang Road.

Sand, silt and boulders were removed from nullahs at Wongneichong, Sookunpoo, Shaukiwan and Colonial Cemetery; repairs were carried out to nullahs in the Anti-Malarial Districts of Taikoo, Sookunpoo and Lyeemun; repairs were effected to nullahs at No. 12 Bridge, Shaukiwan East; Tai Hang; Bowen Road, West of I.L. 2237 and North Point, east of I.L. 2273; and to damaged sewer at Shaukiwan East.

Following the typhoon in September, repairs were carried out to the following piers:--- Blake, Harbour Office, King Shan, Murray, Queen's, Sai Wan Ho, Tonnochy Road and Wilmer Street.

55. Maintenance of City and Hill District Water Works: The year opened with a ten hours supply daily, the periods of supply being 6-11 a.m. and 4-9 p.m. With the exception of three days at Chinese New Year (2nd-4th February) and five days during the Silver Jubilee Celebrations (5th-9th May) when a constant supply was given, the ten hours supply remained in force until 25th May.
