The restriction on the hours of supply of water to the Western District of the City was reduced to eight hours per day (6-10 a.m. and 4-8 p.m.) and on 1st June the whole city was put on to a six hours per day supply (6-9 a.m. and 4.30-7.30 p.m.). On 18th June it was possible to revert to a ten hours supply and on 8th July a constant supply was given to the whole city. On 1st November it was considered advisable to introduce a fifteen hours per day supply (6 a.m.-9 p.m.) and this arrangement remained in force until the close of the year. During the year, therefore, a constant supply was maintained for 124 days, as compared with 148 days in 1934.

The Tytam Tuk Catchwater system was completed and, as no further reservoirs or catchwaters are projected on the island, it is of interest to record the following particulars of the island reservoirs and catchment areas:

Reservoir Capacity (Million gallons) Direct drainage area (acres) Indirect drainage by catchwaters (acres) Total Drainage area (acres) Pokfulam 66.00 425 - 425 Aberdeen Upper 173.23 321 948 1,269 Aberdeen Lower 106.89 93 28 121 Wongneichong 30.34 100 117 217 Tytam 384.80 735 440 1,175 Tytam Byewash 22.37 - - - Tytam Intermediate 195.90 260 160 420 Tytam Tuk 1,406.00 585 1,818 2,403 Total 2,385.53 2,519 3,511 6,030

The total length of catchwaters on the island is 134,803 feet or 25.53 miles.

In view of the pending completion of the Tytam Tuk Catchwater system, it was considered advisable to increase the overflow provision at Tytam Tuk Reservoir. This was effected, at small cost, by dressing down the overflow sill stones by 6" which resulted in a reduction of the maximum capacity of the reservoir by thirteen million gallons. An automatic flood recorder and a self-recording rain gauge have been installed in the Tytam Tuk Reservoir Valve House.

Towards the end of the year a measurement was made of all water mains on the island of 2" diameter and upwards (exclusive of the old Rider Mains and privately owned pipes). Details are given in Table XII from which it will be seen that the total length is 108 miles.
