197. Lin Long Water Supply:-Work was carried out during the year on the first section of the scheme to provide a water supply for the Un Long District.

This section of the scheme consists of abstracting water from the stream which flows north westwards past Chung Ak Tsuen, passing it through rough filters, conveying it by pipe-line to Un Long, and providing a distribution system with standpipes, fire hydrants, etc., in the village. In addition, the raising of an existing irrigation dam on the stream had to be undertaken to safeguard the supply to the padi fields during the dry season.

Work done during the year was as follows:-A concrete intake dam was constructed across the stream at about 300 feet A.O.D. Roughing filters with an area of sixty square yards, and a covered concrete filtered water tank of 11,600 gallons capacity, were built just below the intake. A brick hut for stores and shelter was erected near the filters. The irrigation dam was raised about eight feet in mass concrete, the new over-flow level being sixty feet A.O.D. 300 feet of 6′′ wrought iron piping were laid from the intake to the filters, including a by-pass round the filters. 8,740 feet of 5′′ wrought iron and spun iron piping were laid from the filters alongside the stream-course to join the main road near Chung Ak Tsuen. 13,724 feet of 6" spun iron piping were laid along the road verge from Chung Ak Tsuen to near Un Long. The irrigation dam referred to above was not quite completed and work had not been started on the distribution system in Un Long by the end of the year.
