200. Victoria Hospital-Hot Water System to Maternity Block: This work was referred to in paragraph 131 of last year's Report. A contract for a coal-burning domestic hot water apparatus to supply all existing basins, sinks and baths in the Maternity Block and Sisters' Quarters, and to provide lavatory basins to all wards in the Maternity Block was let to Messrs. Lee Yu Kee on 12th September. The work was practically completed by the end of the year.

201. Preparation of Children's Playing Grounds :-This work was referred to in paragraph 221 of last year's Report. The work on levelling the sites and erection of boundary fences was completed in February and the grounds put into use. A contract for the equipment stores and shelter was let to Messrs. Hop Cheong & Co. on 5th March and was completed on 5th June. A portion of ground at Prince Edward Road, Kowloon, was levelled and fenced in a similar manner to form another playing ground and the work was carried out and completed in December.

203. New Fire Station, Shamshuipo :-Sketch plans were approved, working drawings prepared and a contract let on the 2nd June to Messrs. The Hong Kong Engineering and Construction Co., Ltd. The work consisted of the erection of a Fire Station to accommodate two appliances, office and stores on the ground floor, a dormitory for fourteen firemen, mess room, kitchen, bath and lavatories on the first floor. The building is constructed in red facing bricks with concrete floors and roof.

204. Temporary Building, Kowloon Magistracy:-For use as a temporary court a wood framed building was erected at this Magistracy.

Harbour Office, Additions and Alterations :-The work consisted of altering the second floor and part of the first floor of the Harbour Office to give increased natural lighting and office accommodation for the Government Marine Surveyors. The work was carried out under the Maintenance of Buildings Contract and was commenced on the 16th March and completed on the 14th August.
