191. Miscellaneous:-A new fuel store was provided for the Welfare Centre at Fanling and the approach road to the Island Quarters at Taipo was fenced. The approach paths to the District Court at Taipo and the Senior Police Officers Quarters were widened and surfaced. The village wall at Kam Tin was repaired.

192. Water Works:-A new rain gauge was fixed inside the Shing Mun Catchment area. A reinforced concrete foot-bridge was constructed across the overflow channel from the Reception Reservoir. An unclimbable fence was erected round Nos. 1 and 2 rain gauges, Shing Mun, to prevent interference by unauthorised persons and a break-pressure tank was constructed at a level of about 250 feet A.O.D. on the 4" supply main to Tsun Wan to reduce pressure in the village.

COMMUNICATIONS.
193. Improving and Strengthening main road for motor traffic:-A channel, margins and an additional layer of 4″ to 6" macadam tar painted and covered with chippings were laid between the 12 Milestone near Chit Nei Ping, Taipo Road and the Railway Level Crossing at Taipo, a distance of 3 miles approximately. Improvements were made to the road alignment. The area covered was 36,940 square yards. The contract was awarded to Messrs. Foo Loong & Co. on March 12th, 1934, and the work was completed satisfactorily by the end of October, 1934.

194. Improving bends at 5, 6½ and 7 Miles, Taipo Road:-Cutting through the hillside, the formation of embankments and the construction of circular culverts were included in this work. The contract was awarded to Messrs. Tak Hing & Co. on April 23rd, 1934, and the work was completed satisfactorily by the end of the year.
