Q 41
This section of the scheme consists of utilising the un-filtered water energy between Bowen Road Conduit and the Lower Eastern Filter Beds to deliver filtered water to a high level service reservoir constructed in 1933 on Jardine's Lookout Hill. From this tank water can be distributed to points as widely apart as Tai Hang and Repulse Bay.
The work done is detailed below under Pumping and Distribution.
Under Pumping, a 15"-18" turbine drive main approximately 390 feet in length was laid from the Bowen Road Conduit; a Turbine and Pump House was erected beside the lower tier of filter beds. Two Tangye triple ram pumps, together with two Turgo Impulse water turbines supplied by Messrs. Gilkes & Gordon, Ltd. were erected. Each set is capable of delivering 3,600 gallons per hour into Jardine's Lookout Service Reservoir. A 15" diameter exhaust water main was laid from the turbines to the lower filter beds inlet conduit, and a filtered water suction main was laid from the Gauge Basius of the upper filter beds to the pumps. A rising main 5" in diameter and 2,687 feet in length was laid from the Turbine House to Jardine's Lookout Service Reservoir.
Under Distribution, 3,090 feet of 4" and 1,110 feet of 3" piping was laid from Jardine's Lookout Service Reservoir to Tai Hang Service Reservoir. 480 feet of 3" piping were laid in Broadwood Road to supply the existing iron tank on the Ridge. A covered service reservoir of 45,000 gallons capacity having a T.W.L. of 533 feet A.O.D. was constructed on a space above Tai Hang Village. A 3" diameter distribution main from the above tank was laid to supply development above Tai Hang Village. A 4" diameter main from Jardine's Lookout Reservoir was laid to link up near R.B.L. 332 with the existing Repulse Bay pipe line from Wongneichong Reservoir.
The last three items had not been completed by the close of the year, but the turbines, pumps, and mains laid, had been tested with satisfactory results.
