57. Maintenance of Praya Walls and Piers.-The Praya Walls and Piers were maintained in a satisfactory condition throughout the year. Extensive repairs were carried out to the following piers:-Blake, Murray, Queen's, Western Market and Queen Victoria Street.
Minor repairs were effected to the following works:- Shaukiwan, Sai Wan Ho, Harbour Department, King Shan, Eastern Street, Wilmer Street and Wilmer Street and Green Island Piers: Fleming Road, Kennedy Town, Eastern Street and Whitfield Refuse Boat Stations and Sai Wan Ho Seawall.

58. Maintenance of Public Cemetery.—The Cemeteries were maintained in a satisfactory condition. The surfacing of the paths in the Colonial Cemetery with 2$\frac{1}{2}$" granolithic paving was continued.

60. Maintenance of Public Recreation Grounds.—The various grounds were maintained in good playing order.

61. Dredging Foreshores.-During the year, No. 1 Grab Dredger worked 302 days and was under repairs 1st to 5th January, 26th September to 6th October, and 1st to 27th December (forty-three days). The cost of repairs and replacements amounted to $3,082.79. The dredger removed 32,681.04 cube yards of silt at an all-in cost of 57.42 cents per cube yard, which includes the cost of transporting and depositing the dredged materials but excludes depreciation. The No. 2 Grab Dredger worked 281 days and was under repairs 1st to 11th January, 13th to 23rd October, and 1st to 20th December (forty-two days). The cost of repairs and replacements amounted to $2,549.48. The dredger removed 28,535.06 cube yards of silt at an all-in cost of 59.90 cents per cube yard, which includes the cost of transporting and depositing the dredged materials but excludes depreciation. The greater portion of the dredge materials was dumped at Sung Wong Toi, and the remainder at Cheung Sha Wan. Of the total of 61,166.10 cube yards silt removed during the year, 35,124.52 cube yards were dredged from the foreshores and in maintaining the depth of water alongside Public Piers, Refuse Boat Piers and within
