Damage outside the City was confined principally to the Catchwaters which were seriously obstructed by earth and rock falls. Further damage to the motor road between Repulse Bay and Tytam Tuk resulted owing to the unavoidable overflow from the Stanley Mound Catchwaters.

All the pumping engines at Tytam Tuk Pumping Station, with the exception of No. 1, are in good condition. No. 1 Engine was run at the beginning of the year, but now requires new steam valves and has been partly dismantled for repairs and renewals. No. 2 Engine was completely overhauled in August and September and is now in good condition; new steam valves were fitted and valve barrels bored out.

The new engine installed by Messrs. Worthington-Simpson Co., now known as No. 5 Engine ran its official tests in November and was taken over by Government on the 23rd of that month. It is now running satisfactorily under the maintenance period.

The total quantity of water stored in the impounding reservoirs on the 1st of January amounted to 1,225 million gallons, there being 186 million gallons in the gravitation reservoirs and 1,039 million gallons in the low-level reservoirs requiring pumping. Storage reached a minimum on the 10th April when the total was 653 million gallons, there being 191 million gallons in the gravitation reservoirs.

The reservoirs were at or over their permanent overflow levels on various dates for the following periods:

The rainfall for the year amounted to 100.78 inches (Observatory Record) or 13.20 inches more than last year and was 15.24 inches above the average for the last forty-three years. Although there was considerable rainfall during March and April the wet season did not set in until the end of June.
