It is of interest to record the following hourly readings supplied by the Royal Observatory:—.

Believed to be the highest hourly rainfall ever recorded in Hong Kong.
The following is a summary of the damage which resulted within the City:
No. 3 Engine and the Eastern portion of Pokfulam Road Pumping Station were wrecked by a large boulder (4 lives were lost). Parts of No. 2 Engine (dismantled) were also lost or damaged.
All Peak and High Level mains carried away.
Elliot supply and delivery mains carried away.
Supply main to Eastern Filter Beds carried away.
Barker, Macdonnell and Kennedy Road mains carried away.
Rising main from No. 4 Motor carried away.
Rising main from No. 2 Motor carried away.
Elliot and Eastern Filter Beds were badly choked with silt from landslides in this vicinity.
With the exception of the damage to the Pokfulam Road Pumping Station, all the above damage was sufficiently repaired by 1st August to permit of a full supply throughout the City.
By the end of the year, the boulder and wreckage had been removed from the Pokfulam Road Pumping Station and arrangements for the reconstruction of the Pump and building were well advanced.
