138. Taitam Tuk Scheme.-Additional Pumping Plant:-

(a.) Engine House and Foundations.

(b.) Engine and Boiler.

The work under Contract No. 40 of 1924, referred to in paragraph 133 of last year's Report, was started in November, 1924, and completed in December, 1925, by Mr. Ng Wah, and consisted of foundations for the Engine of the new pumping unit, Boiler setting, and Engine House, and Boiler House Extensions.

The first delivery of machinery parts was received from England in February, but, owing to the deficient storage in the gravity reservoirs, the erection of the Boilers was not started until March, and of the Engine until April.

Progress on the erection of the engine was considerably delayed owing to the strike and other causes, but by the end of the year all cylinders were in position, and covers and valves fixed. The delivery pipe was also completed and the suction pipe laid as far as possible up to the junction with the existing suction pipes.
