Last Paper.

1942.

Describes conversation with Mr. Patrick Young, one of the Directors of the Chinese Engineering and Mining Company, who considered that the memorandum from the Board of Directors (F 4133/888/10) was dictated too much by considerations of the shareholders interests. He left a note which he intended should be substituted. Mr. Young insisted on the patriotic character of the principal British employees, but was of the opinion that the best policy would be to allow them to continue their employment for the Japanese. He pointed out that Mr. Nathan could be relied upon to slow up coal shipment as much as possible.
