Big Order for Aeroplanes,
An order for seven heavy re connaissance "aeroplanes, seven fighter reconnaissanes aeroplanes, and possibly some school ma- chines in addition, is to be placed hy the Dutch Indies Military Air Barvice through the Dutch Ministry of War, and both British and French firms are named as to be asked to tender under com- petitives conditions as to perfor mance. In order to protect the aviation firma each of these firms is tobe given an advantage of 4,000 points, after which the merits of the respective aircraft competing are to be decided on a system of points. As the total of paints. is not stated it remains to be seen whether the initial handicap of the foreign rivals is entirely probitive of success; but it is a point in our favour that. British aircraft are held in high regard in the Datch East Indies. France is steadily pursuing her policy of aeroplane penetration of North Africa, and is discussing how to link up the Toulouse-Dakar line with South Ameria by seaplane services, while efforts are also being made to extend to the East with Italian co-peration.
