The Chinese Maritime Customs report for 1921 respecting New ehwang states:-The value of Chinese produce imported during the year shows a slight advance as compared with the 1920 figures. Chinese sheetings show the large increase of 146,000 pjeces. It is stated, however, that a large stock of sheetings still remains in the market, owing to absenco, of demand from the interior. The continual development of the cotton cloth industry brought about an increased importation of Chinese cotton yam. In- cressing Gutput_ from the Fasbun and Penkibu col- lieries was responsible for + decrease in the importation of Kaiping coal from Chinwangtao. A decided failing off is noticeable ît, raw cotton-the most exten- sively used article in this cold re- gion. This may in a measure be accounted for by the predaction of the cotton in the neighbouring districts. 1st. quality paper ex- bibits ascall increase, which, however, fails to counterbalance the notable decrease in 2nd. quality paper. Direct shipment of salt from Fuchow Bay to Ar- tung has resulted in a diminished importation at Newchwang,
