CHINA'S PATROLEUM WELLS. According to latest report, there are 22 pretroleum wells in Chihli, 4 in Fangtien, 2 in Kirin, 13 in Kwaichow, 17 in Yunnan, 8 in Shenai, 5 in Kiangan, 5in Hanso, 4 in Kiangal, 9 in Szechnen, in Hupeh, and 1 in Kwangtung, making a total of 91 wells, of which Chihli, Kweichow, YunDAR, and Szechuen possess the best.
CHINESE COAL-MININO. Chen Chi Chi of Sintaihsien. Shantung, has raised a sum of : $200,000 for the working of the Sintai Coal Mine, which is located between Lungtan and Chenlitssog. He has already applied for registration to the Provincial Industrial Commis- sioner, who has submitted the application to the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce for official sanction. The application is now under consideration,

JAPANESE DYE INDUSTRY.
The dyestuff trade in Japan appears to be steadily going from bad to worse. German merchants resident in Japan are evidently chagrined. Japaneso papers say that the advantageous position they have hitherto beld is being weakened little by little. The truth is that Japanese merchants have been importing directly from German manufacturers on com- paratively
favourable terms. From America and Switzerland dyes are also arriving. As the market price is idle in these cir- cumstances, business is dull and uncertain.
ELECTRICAL CONTRACTS.
The General Electric Co. of China, Ltd., have secured two important contracts for British machinery. The first is for an extension electrical plant (for a large Chinese city) consisting of
direct-coupled steam-engine dynamo lighting ret, capacity 1,000 KW, with Witton-GEC. alternator and Howden triple- expansion high-speed steam engine. The second contract is for extension plant consisting οἱ 500 K.W. Witton-G.E.C. alternator coupled to Belliss and Marcoin triple-expansion seam engine, with high-tension switch- board panels, surface-condensing plant and various accessories.
