Reuter's advices from New York annouces the receipt by the Wantinghouse Electric Inter national Co. from the Imperial Government of Japan of an order for two electric locomotives to be used in service in the neighbour hood of Tokyo. These locomotivas, which will weigh 6 tons and have a capacity of 1,000 h.p: each, “ will operate on the 1,300, volt direct current system.

A Tientsin merchant bas pantioned the Ministry of Agriculture and Commerce for approval to form a company for the constuction of tramways between Peking and Tientsin. An electric plan: will be installed jat Hwailai. and power will be g-nerated from the Yungting River

CHINESE BRIDGES. According to a Shanghai dis- patch. Dr. J. A. L. Waddell, the American bridge

port, having returned from В trip under- taken in the service of the Poking Government in connection with | the construction of a new bridge across the Yellow River on the Peking-Hankow milway. As to | the object of his present visit to Shanghai the message to the Japanese paper quotes a Chinese official as stating that it is in connection with, the pro- posed construction of bridg between Pukow and Nanking, Da Waddell being en- trusted, with the necessary inves- tigations in this connection. It is understood that his view is that although attended with those greater difficulties than attending the construction of a Bridge between Hankow and Wachang it is not altogether in- possible tora bridge to be built between Pukow sad Nanking. Should this bridge be actually bails great facilities will be afforded in the passenger and other traffic between Peking and Shangbai.
