Bremen, September 6-The earnings of the North German Lloyd Company for the first half- year were examined to-day at a meeting of the board of control, Compared with those of the car- responding period of last year,. they show a considerable increase, due to the activity of the traffic with the United States and the growing traffic with South America, where ships of the Sierra type prove very effective. The financial situation of the company has also largely improv- ed the cash, in hand, which was 51,000,000 marks at the end of last year, had risen to 61,000,000 marks at the end of August, al- though considerable sums were paid to carry out the programme of building twelve steamships of an aggregate of 116,000 tons re- gister, while large advance pay mnants were also made. The money still due to shipbuilders for these shipa is now only about
20,030 marks, which mature only
at periode between the spring and autumn of next year. Whe- ther the contract for postal ser. -- vice will be renewed with the Government is not yet settled, but the North German Lloyd Line will maintain its bi-monthly passenger service with the Far Eist and will resume its suspend- ed cargo-boat service with the Far East. The North Germany- Lloyd, unless the Government grants it sufficient aid, will stop the main service to Australia au soon as the contract expires, 28 this has been ran with great loss up to now.
