-who was passing near the Palace in the street, was intercepted on his course, by the Korean mob. This resulted in a struggle between the police and the mob, and the two Japanese offi. clats in the Korean police force were severely injured about the head. They were sent to the Kanjo Hospital and one of them is lying in a dangerous condition. During the struggle the Korean soldiers within the Daihan gate threw stones upon the Japanese. The mob in front Classe diensved in the direction of Chang un, as the Japanese palice guarde rifles.

A dispatch dated Friday 7.40 p.m. slates that firing was heard in various directions. A com pany of Korean troops surrounded the Police Station at Chongno and fired at it, over to men -being wounded. The Japanese troops have

been called out.

Police Inspectors Inouye and Salto were killed and over so more constables were wound- ed in the struggle which ensued. A Europeau was also injured. The street of Chongna is said to have been covered with blood.

A later dispatch states that the Korean mob altempted to enter the Palace. The police force defended the entrance by firing ibair rifles, and the Japanese troops came to their (54 assistance and repulsed the angry crowd.
