Within the distance Huntsman, hard ridden, drew up, and the other failing to stay home, won easily by half-n length. Time 5 min. 7 seconds.

THIRD DAY WEDNESDAY, JANUARY JOTH.

Beautiful weather again favored racegoers, and everything passed off in the most agreeable and satisfactory manner. The ball was opened with the Tamsul Cup for beaten subscription griffins, Reiver in the hands of Mr. Greaves, a young and very promising horseman, making the whole of the running and winning in a canter. Only three competitors contested the Amoy Stakes, a grand struggle between Huntsman and Strath- "avon ending in favor of the first named by a short- neck. The ever popular Ladies Purse fell to the share of Mr. Harkaway by the aid of Pedometer, the winner of the Foochow Maidens ridden by Mr. Oscar Brandt, having a very easy task set blm. After the race M. Müller, who rode Etoile du Nord, again made himself supremely ridiculous by claiming a foul against the winner, which, considering that Pedometer was never appronched after taking the lead, and actually won in a canter, was even worse than his paltry and unsportsmanlike objection on the first day: The claim was disallowed. The Purse was presented to Mr. Brandt by Miss Brown in a few appropriate words, the successful rider suitably responding Huntsman was pulled out again for the Visitors Cup, and won easily. Forager and Sir Garnet, proving himself the best pony at the meeting, Wild Foam, steered by Mr. Dow, had no trouble in landing the Race Club Cup, and then. Silver Cloud in the hands of his owner got home in the Consolation Stakes after a rather exciting race. A field of five con- tested the Champion Stakes, and Iroquois, spe cially kept for this event, after making the whole of the running, stalled off Mr. Hutching's final rush on Strathavan, and landed himself a clever winner. Wild Foam ridden by Akew won the Mafoos Race. An additional race for Amoy mafoos only, created a great deal of amusement, the aged Temptation eventually gaining first honors.

This brought to a finish one of the best race- meetings ever add in Amoy. Most of the suc- cess is owing to the Stewards, who were indefatig able in their exertions. Special praise is due to Mr. St. Croix who acted as "the man in the box," to Mr. R. H. Bruce, who made a most efficient starter, and, last but not least, to the gonial and obliging Clerk of the Course, Mr. T. G. Harkness.

Waffles' gr. Cruiser...........Mr. o Iroquois had slightly the best of the start, and made hot running closely followed by Forager and Pedonicles, Mr. Hutchings waiting with Strathavon a few lengths behind. Approaching the distance Forager and Pedometer hung out

signals of distress, and Strathavon coming up with a grand rush challenged for the lead. It was of no avail however, as the old grey's'exer tions in the Amoy Stakes had taken a lpt out of him, and although he got to the neck of Iroquois he was finally benten after a beautiful mce, the winner never having been headed from the start. The MAPDOS' RACE, for all Ponies entered at this meeting; catch weights; to be ridden by Chinese. Once round and a distance. Mr. Funnyboye's gr. Wild Foam.........Akew r Mr. Harkaway's bay Barometer........

Young Shuffalong, 2 Wild Foam, made all the running and won hands down.

The Consuls had a meeting the other day to consider the communication from the Viceroy in which he requested the Consula to put a stop to

The position Mr. Bourée assumed with regard to Korea with Li Hung-chang was that as Koren was an integral part of the Chinese Empire, as Li Hung-chang claims, that the existing French treaties applied to China, and he demanded that the privileges conferred by those treaties for French citizens should be extended to Korea As regards Tong-king that was settled at Paris.
