CLYDE DEFEAT MOTHERWELL

LONDON, April 22 (Reuter) -A crowd of over 100,000 to- day saw Clyde defeat Mother- well by 4 goals to § in the final of the Scottish Cup at Hampden Park in cold butanny weather. Motherwell kicked off with the wind behind them, and Mathle tested the Clyde goalle,, Brown, in

Clyde retaliated and Murray punched a high shot from Noble over the bar.

Motherwell had £ couple of chances but Brown saved from a corner and again when Bremner sent in a low shot.

After a period of even play, the Clyde defence was severely test- ed but Wallace scored for Clyde after half hour.

Half time arrived, with Clyde leading by 1-0.

MADRAS, April 10-The follow- ing team has been chosen by the Selection Committee of the All- India Lawn Tennis Association to represent India in the 1939 Davis Cup competition:

Ghaus Mahomed (United Pro- vinces, India's No. 1).

Y. R. Savur (Madras). 3. L. R. Sawhney (Punjab). Iftikhar Ahmed (Punjab), J. Charanjiva (Central Pro- vinces, non-playing captain).

The team has already salied from Bombay.

The side is a good one and all of them have played regularly 12 recent" tournaments, Ghaus Mahomed has had a particularly good season. His showing against the American tennis visitors has considerably enhanced his reputa- tion as the finest singles player in India.

Sawhney and Savur will be an excellent doubles combination. Both possess good service and excellent forehands. In addition Sawhney is very good at the net.

FIRST MATCH MAY 26- India's first Davis Cup match is against Belgium at Brussels begin- ning on May 26. The Indian team will arrive in Belgium at least two weeks prior to the match.

The Indian team will also parti- cipate in some Continental cham- plonships before and after their Davis Cup encounter and will finally be seen in action at Wim- bledon.
