London, May 18. The famous Jonker diamond, the
fourth largest diamond in the world, the finding of which was reported by our Pretoria, Corres- pondent in The Times of January, 18, 1934, has been sold to an Ameri- can diamond merchant. The
price paid is stated to be in the neighbourhood of £150,000.
The stone, which weighs 726 carats and is the size of a hen's egg, is named after Jacobus Jon- ker, the South African farmer and prospector, on whose claim at Elandsfontein the diamond was found by a native assistant in Jan-. uary, 1934.
It was described at the time as a. pure white dawless diamond, about one-third of the size of the famous Cullinan (3,025 carats), be
