The new champion fully deserved his victory and although at times play was not of too high a stand- ard, Hyde Lay showed flashes of brilliance that only a champion rould show. He was consistent right through, and long before the match was over, it was evident that he would win
Luz was inclined to be erratic and played a very poor game in- deed. Except for the first two heads, he was never in the lead and
two occasions he allowed Hyde Lay to score the maximum. In the eighteenth head, when the score was standing at 19-11 against him, he pulled himself together and counted four, but in the very next hend, Hyde Lay by scoring two put the issue beyond doubt:

BRADBURY ». COATES
The tie for second place between Bradbury and Coates was some- what one-sided as Coates was play ing at the top of his form while Bradbury. failed to produce any of the brilliance that he had shown in earlier rounds.
Chates led from the start and was never headed again. By the seventh head he was leading 9-3 when Brad- 'bury scored two shots. Things were even for awhile, and by the thirteenth head Bradbury had got to 9-12 but in the very next head Coates scored a 3 and after con- ceding two shota "went on to score a 2 and a three to lead by 20 to 12. The 18th head went to Brad- bary by a single but the end came in the next head when scored a toucher with his wood against which Bradbury could make no reply.
