DUEL BETWEEN LEAGUE LEADERS RESULT IN DOWNFALL OF CHAMPIONS

INDIANS CREATE SURPRISE IN SECOND,

DIVISION

The feature of Saturday's Lawn Bowls was the unexpected defeat of Oralgengower 0.0. on the rinks of thạ Kowloon Bowling. Green, the champlong of last season going under by nine shots although they won in two out of three rinks. Basa went down badly in his rink, finishing fifteen points behind Holland's four."

Club de Recreio had no difficulty in taking full points from Taikoo while the Police also wrested the points from their neigh- " bours, the Civil Service. The Kowloon Dock R.C., although go- . ing down on two rinks, managed to win their match against Kow- laon C.C.

In the junior division the Indians scored their first league ̈ points, the Club de Recreio being beaten by 19 shots. Olvi Ser- vice surprised the Yacht Club on the latter's ground and the Police just managed to beat the Electric R.C. by a single point.

The Craigengower played the X.B.G.C. at home and eliminat- ed the latter, for the time being at least from the race for leader ship in the second division.

KIDNAPPED FROM BATH

AMERICAN GIRL RELEASED ON PAYMENT OF RANSOM

Kansas City-Miss Mary McEl- roy, daughter of Judge H. F. Me Elroy. City Manager, returned to her home to-day after spending 24 hours in the custody of kidnappers who threatened her with death i she revealed anything that might | lead to their capture.

The kidnappers were at liberty after receiving 830,000 from Judge MeElroy, who paid the ransom promptly after. his daughter was taken from the family home by two armed men.

Lumasked but armed, the gangs, ters entered the "MaElroy home on Saturday afternoon. Miss McElroy was in hor bath at the time. The kidnappers ordered her to dress and accompany them. She obeyed ane was taken somewhere" in an automobile, she said.

A demand for ransom was left at the house.

Miss McElroy said she was treat- ed courteously while she was held prisoner.

Despite the threat of the kidnap. pers, the police and the state road police of Missouri and Kansas were seeking them to-day.
