On inspection of the three boats after the race it was found that
they did not carry the required equipment. The boats were expect ed to be equipped as they would be while at sea during an emer- geney. The deficiencies, however, were small, and none were dis qualified. As the Hatching won by a very wide margin, it was decided to award her the win.
Continuing, Mr. Shields said that in previous races the Trophy has been "wett five times by the Java-China-Japan Line and four times by the Douglas Steaanship Company. The entries this time wera disappointing considering that a previous occasion fourteen boats took part in the race, and the J.C.I.L. unfortunately had no ships in port to enable them to parti- cipate.
