INCREASE IN HONGKONG CARGO,

LOW FREIGHTS FOR OTHER PORTS.

The shipping statement for yesterday showed a drop in the tonnage figures, there being two fewer yessels arriving, Hongkong cargo showed an increase of 9,000 tong odd, but freight for ports be by about 21,000 tons, only three steamers yond had dropped considerably, namely carrying any. The total tonnage entered was 2,504 tons, of which British vessels accounted for 1.110 tons and vessels, of other nationalities for 15,625 tona

NATIONALITIES.

At 9 am yesterday there were 50 vessels in the harbour, of which 24 were 14,100 tons, Capt.-kieorge W. Lacul British During the previous 24-hours from Manila, which port she left on ten vessels arrived, zi, four British, August 24th, with a general cargo,; ying at Kowloon Wharf-Dollarone American, one Portuguese, two Japanese, and two Chinese. The depar tures during the same period come to twelve, is, one British and one Japanese for Singapore, two Chinese for Kwang (how Wan, one British for Jesselton, one Dutch for Batavia, one Chinese for Hau- hoi,, one Dutch for Muntok, one British for Sandakan, one Japanese for Moji. one Chinese for Sha U Chung and one British for Kobe.

NOTES.

A slight mishap occurred to the s.. Kinshan, one of the steamers employed un the daily run between Hongkong and Macan, when returning to "Hongkong from Mincao of Thursday." It appears that-she-lost one of her propeller blades.. but this being not very serious she was able to make Hongkong all right On arrival here she went to Taikoo Dock to have the necessary repairs effected, anil subsquently to her place at the Wing Lok Street wharf again, sailing for Macao in the afternoon. It is thought that the propeller may have snapped off by reason of silting in the vicinity of the Harbour works at Macan."

The total number of deck passengers entered for the twenty-four hours ended at D... yesterday was 914, of which the 8.5. Tilrea carried 809 from Calcutta and Singapore.
