THE KING'S BIRTHDAY.
THE COLONY'S CELEBRATIONS.
GOVERNMENT HOUSE RECEPTION.
THE REVIEW AT HAPPY VALLEY. HUGE CROWD WITNESS IMPRESSIVE PÅRADE.
Yesterday was a public holiday in honour of the 61st Birthday of His Majesty King George V. Business houses and Government, Military, Naval and public offices were closed but all buildings sported flags; and the warships and British merchant vessels in the harbour were "dressed" for the occasion.
The celebrations opened in the morning with the Birthday Parade 'and Review at Happy Vallew, in which nearly two thousand officers and men of various military and naval units of the local Command participated. The Parude was inspected and the Salute taken by H. E. the Governor (Sir Cecil Clementi, K.C.M.G.), as Commander-in-Chief of the Naval and Military Forces of the Colony. It was estimated that some 20,000 spectators were present.
In the evening H.E. the Governor and Lady Clementi held a reception at Government House for which over fourteen hundred invitations were issued. The band of the East Surrey Regiment provided the music' for the dancing. A special feature" of the function was the change in the scheme of decorations from that prevailing in previous years. Last even-" ing Government House "was decorated throughout in Chinese style and a fish lantern procession and a fireworks display were arranged for the entertainment of the guests.
THE PARADE AND REVIEW. Last rear bad weather prevented the holiday of the ceremonial parade which usually marks the observance of the King's Birthday, Yesterday morning, the weather was ing, although overcast, and the Parade was held under ideal con ditions. Later in the day rain fell heavily and somewhat marred the, out of door fixtures,
