BRILLIANTLY PLAYED!
"Dear Four Aces," writes a corres- pondent, who is evidently a fine player, "the bidding of this hand is not re- commended. I was sitting South and opened with a sound notrump bid, but my partner's jump to a Small Slam was a distinct overbid. However, I think you will find the play unusually interesting."

6NT Pass Pass 'West opened the Jack of spades and a survey of the dummy showed that unless the King-Queen of dia- monds were alone, or HIGH CARD VALUES West held. either the King or Queen sup- ported solely by the ten-spot, the hand could not be made. I decided to play West for this latter holding and thus, after win- ning the opening lead; dia- I played a low mond from my hand. West promptly. won the trick with the Queen and led a second spade. My next play was the diamond Jack from dummy and, seeing that it would be useless to cover, East played low.

"The rest should be obvious. I cash- ed all my tricks in every suit but clubs, thereby squeezing my East opponent. Finally he had to discard a club in order to hold the diamond King and I was then able to win all four tricks in the club suit.”
A very nicely played hand that wins our full approval.
