MR. CHOW EN-LAI DEEPLY
$
CRITICAL OF WANG CHING-WEI
Chungking, To-day.
Mr. Chow En-lai, one of the most prominent leaders of the Communist Party, told Reuter yester- day that the peace move made by Mr. Wang Ching-wei came as no surprise to him. "In my twenty years' association with-Wang, I have always known him to be a quitter," he said. Mr. Chow, who played a leading part in the Sian In- cident, said that Wang, during his entire poli- tical career, had "frequently changed align- ments."
Wang worked with the Commun- ists in Hankow in 1927, joined the rebellion of Marshal Yen Hsi-shan
General Feng Yu-hsiang! against General Chiang Kai-shek and also joined the late Mr. Hu Han-min in the Canton revolt.
COLONIAL BADGE and

The members of these units will wear a badge showing the Southern Cross on their left sleeve.
H.K. RESIDENTS IN NEW YEAR HONOURS LIST
•
Every time, however, Wang had betrayed his colleagues as soon as the going was difficult, and being an opportunist, always pursued the line of least resistance, declared Mr. Chow.
Mr. Chow said that Wang's first move towards negotiation with the Japanese was made in an interview he gave to Reuter immediately after the fall of Canton and just] before the fall of Hankow, when he issued a statement expressing China's readiness to discuss peace.
STATEMENT DENOUNCED Mr. Wang's statement was vigor- ously denounced by all commanding officers who participated in the mil- itary conference at Nanyo, Hunan,

Each year the 'Old Crocks' turn out for the famous London to Brighton race. This year there were more than 100 cars which took part and all of them over 30 years old needless to say not all of them reached the finishing line at Brighton, but despite the torrential rain which accompanied them 90 did manage to finish. Probably the most difficult part of the run was through the London, traffic. Here is one of the competitors passing a London bus on its way to Brigh-
