In 1989, a daily
average of 2.67 million
passengers rode on
the Company's buses.
1988 : 2.96 million), giving a total of 974 million passengers for the year (1988:1,082 million) and representing a decrease of 10% over 1988. The actual distance travelled by the Company's buses also decreased by 6.9%, to a total of 188 million kilometres. The

to some extent offset the benefit from the 19% fare increase implemented on 19th February, 1989 and the net fare
revenue increase generated from this
fare adjustment was only 6.7%.
MORE NEW ROUTES AND NEW BUSES
Last year, the bus network continued to expand to meet demand in the
new towns. In 1989, twenty-one new bus routes were introduced; six of them serving the population intakes at Ma On Shan and Tseung Kwan O
while two were new cross-harbour
routes operating via the newly opened
Eastern Harbour Crossing. Three all-
night/special morning services were also introduced to cater for the demand at
Tsing Yi, Ma On Shan and Tseung Kwan O. In addition, many route extensions and bus frequency
improvements were implemented to tie in with phases of population intake.

增加新路線及新巴士
爲應付新市鎮之需求,巴士網絡在去年
繼續擴展。於一九八九年內,本公司共
開設二十一條新路線,其中六條路線接載
馬鞍山及將軍澳之乘客,兩條為駛經
新啟用之東區海底隧道之新過海隧道線。
另開闢了三項通宵/特別晨早班次
服務,以滿足青衣、馬鞍山及將軍澳乘客
之需要。此外,為配合人口增長,許多
延長路線及增加巴士班次之措施亦已付諸
實行。
