Kuala Lumpur, capital of the Federation of Malaya, where during the past year alone two new bank buildings have been completed and opened.

The new venture will be the local branch of the Bangkok Bank - a $2 million, 11-storey building rising to a height of 136 feet at the corner of High Street and Pudu Street.

According to its architect, Mr. Eric Taylor, F.R.I.B.A., M.Inst. R.A. who is also president of the Board of Ar- chitects of Malaya, his clients asked for "a building dignified in the mo dern trend with its interior incor porating Thai features."

Tenders are to be called shortly for the construction of this new banking house and for aircondition. ing (the building is to be fully air- conditioned), lifts, electrical, sanitary and water installations. The building is expected to be completed by the end of 1963.

Seven shophouses are now being demolished to make way for the new building, which will have a total usable floor area of 68,000 square feet. Investigations of the sub-soil are also being carried out to deter mine whether a raft foundation or piling is needed.
