accommodation elsewhere in the building but who need a quiet, cool area for sleeping during the day- time.

At one side of the block is a large, covered car-park for the accommodation of private cars.

The main kitchen is equipped for European style cooking for two sit- tings of 60 persons at each meal.

There are two passenger lifts which provide service to all floors.

The Training School has been designed to handle the ever-increas- ing number of student nurses which the continued expansion of the medical facilities offered by the Gov- ernment in Hong Kong demands. The annual intake in 1955 was 40 students: this year it has risen to 140. Each student spends three months in the Preliminary Training School and thereafter continues under the "block" system for three years prior to qualifying.

It is the hope and intention that this School will be able to produce all the male and female nurses (other than psychiatric) required in the numerous hospitals, clinics. etc.. operated by the Medical and Health Department of the Hong Kong Government.

The School is a two-storey build- ing linked between the

the Sisters' Block and the Nurses' Block with common access from both Flocks at ground level and from the Nurses' block at first floor level.
