ARMITAGE WARE CO. CHANGES NAME -- On October 1, Edward Johns & Company Limited, the internationally-known sanitary pot- tery company, changed its name to Armitage Ware Ltd.
For many years now, the brand name "Armitage Ware," in its ap- plication to genuine vitreous china and quality earthenware, has been much more widely known than that of its makers. They have, therefore, taken the logical step of adopting the name "Armitage Ware" to re- place the existing company styling.
The Brass Plant at Cannock (W. Markes & Company Ltd.) will con- tinue as a subsidiary of Armitage Ware Ltd.,
Ltd., whilst
whilst the recently- established branch factory at Mel- bourne, Australia, will also operate under the new name.

In 1855, Armitage Ware products were exhibited at the Paris Exhibi- tion, this being the earliest incursion into overseas markets of which there is any record. Undoubtedly this venture laid the foundation of the world-wide export trade which still remains an important part of the

Almost a hundred years ago in 1867 Edward Johns took control of the pottery and established such a reputation for sanitary ware of high quality that although his con- nection ceased in 1900, the name was continued for trading purposes, and the firm was incorporated as a limited liability company in 1907.
