Three-storey open Ipoh Car Park will hold 94 cars

'HE first elevated car park in

Malaya has been constructed in Ipoh, the booming 200.000 popula- tion capital of tin, rubber and iron rich Perak state.

It was declared open for use by the Sultan of Perak on April 26, 1963, and provides parking bays for 94 cars. 32 on the ground floor. 30 on the next floor and 32 on the top floor which does not have a roof.

The main building measures 45 feet x 212 feet providing a floor space, including ramps, of 9,540 square feet.

The area on which the building is erected was originally an open car park. at road level, for 36 vehicles.

The new elevated park, built by the Ipoh Municipal Council at a cost of nearly MS100.000 out of its own funds. is on busy Station Road, cen- tre of the banking and commercial district,

The parking bays in the building are let out on monthly rentals, M$25 on the ground floor. M$20 on

the first floor and MS12 on the top floor (uncovered), with preference to car owners working in the meter- ed car parking zones in the im- mediate vicinity.

The whole structure is of rein- forced concrete, finished in Snowcem colourwash and is fitted with elec- tric lighting. though normally the parking bays are not used at night.
